Margaret is a first-generation MD/PhD Candidate at Howard University College of Medicine/Yale School of Public Health who is passionate about reducing health care inequities existing at the intersection of surgery, cancer and public health among communities of color. Her work involves incorporating multidisciplinary approaches across the social sciences and medicine to examine how structural racism leads to cancer risk and development as well as poor surgical outcomes in diverse populations. Margaret’s leadership and service endeavors aim to address the lack of diversity of physician-scientists of color in academic medicine. Through mentorship, Margaret’s goal is to empower and motivate the next generation of physicians of color to pursue careers in medicine and research.
